Extra lean ground beef doesn’t have to be dry. If you prefer your burger medium or medium rare, you can have great grilled burgers that are still juicy without the fat content. If you prefer a more well done burger, you might try this recipe, where low fat beef broth provides the extra moistness.
1 cup (235 ml) low sodium beef broth
2 slices white bread, torn into pieces
1 1/2 pounds (680 g) extra-lean ground beef (93% lean)
2 tablespoons (30 ml) egg substitute
1/2 teaspoon (1 g) black pepper
Microwave broth in a glass bowl for 30 seconds. Add bread pieces and combine with your hands. Combine broth mixture and remaining ingredients. Shape into 5 patties. Grill patties over mediumhigh heat 6 to 8 minutes on each side or to desired doneness.
